Things I Love: Tuesday

by Katelyn Block on May 15, 2012 · 13 comments

#1: Gabrielle Bernstein.

This girl helps me to humble myself and put my life in perspective. Lately, I’ve been talking with friends about insecurity in myself and others. Why it happens, how it happens, why it drives us crazy, and how to avoid it.

Gabby has sufficiently found a “reset” button that allows her to look at a situation, pull herself back from it, and analyze what’s really going on with a non-judgmental eye.

That, my friends, is grace.

#2: Design.

I’m a visual person. I would rather read a book that has pictures in it, and I prefer Skype to phone calls. Maybe I’m old fashioned. But when it comes to art, I love seeing it in every form.

Above, you see 100 Years of Fashion by Cally Blackman. Filled with designer clothing talent both beautiful and obscure, for some reason I can’t stop flipping through publications like these. Similar addictions of mine include Bullett, Muse, Style.com Magazine, and Vogue (US and UK).

Although I’ve always been fascinated by couture and the culture surrounding it, I’ve never been able to get a grasp on creating it on my own. Photography and digital means for creating things have my heart; drawing has always been a challenge. For now, I’ll stick with flipping through the pages of magazines. A little Pinspiration never hurt, am I right?

#3: Food.

I’ve been eating so much lately it’s actually kind of baffling. Is it stress? Or is it yoga? I’m hoping it’s the latter. Either way, this Mediterranean Quiche from a local Starbucks was simply satisfying.

I should probably tack on Coffee to “Food” above. Today, I had a coffee date with Lisa to catch up and explore the meaning of life. We’ve decided it resides in Santa Monica. On the beach.

I’ve found that some of the best conversations I’ve ever had have occurred over beverages, usually (but not always) coffee. Iced. Quick note: Starbucks now has iced blonde roast! So if you’re a fan of the hot variety, definitely try this one in your summer endeavors.

My plans for the rest of the day? Catch up on some graphic design work, read, and possibly catch a yoga class tonight.

What are yours?

What are you loving?

p.p.s. I have a job interview tomorrow morning! Wish me luck!

Oh yes, I think we’re right on regarding that meaning of life thing!
I kind of feel like we own that Starbucks…

I did love the blond roast iced coffee…

I’m also loving yoga. And my iphone camera (b/c I’m lazy). And the three (!) pairs of lululemon capris I bought because apparently just one was not enough.

See you Friday!!

Hahaha SAAAAME…. my iPhone camera is literally the best thing that’s ever happened to me, convenience-wise. Sometimes Lululemon just gets to your wallet, ya know?

OMG has anyone ever told you that you look so much like Gabrielle Brenstein? Beautiful inside and out! (Both of you!) :)

Hi Katelyn, I recently found your blog and am really enjoying it!
I’ve been meaning to try the new blonde roast from Starbucks! I’m typically not an SBux fan due to the burnt-tasting coffee, but I suspect that won’t be the case with the blonde roast. Anyway, good luck on your job interview!

I’m so glad! Thank you for coming back :) I don’t think it tastes burnt at all, it’s quite mild.
