We Can’t All Be Perfect. {Especially Me}

by Katelyn Block on July 6, 2012 · 30 comments

Hey there! I got froyo last night.

Mmmm yum so nommy. I’ve been eating really well lately (eating cleannnn!), and I wanted some froyo, so I got some freakin’ froyo. Not sorry.

When I get frozen yogurt, I don’t mess around. I got every flavor including Raspberry Cheesecake (!!!) and then topped it with Reese’s, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, mini M&M’s, and sugar-free chocolate syrup. I love everything in the world when froyo is involved. I like everyone’s shirts and the tables and my hair that’s still wet and the fact that my only workout that day was swimming around in the ocean and the pool (not the best combination for your skin but oops). Not exactly Sweating Dirty, but nobody’s perfect. I took a rest day.

Today, I’m going to give you a whole bunch of pretty (ish) pictures, and then talk because I like to do that. Let’s observe.

Beach reading.

Workin’ on my tan-ness! This is progress.

Always ready for the beach. No makeup.

Toes in the water…. ass in the sand?

Sunsets.

Sunflowers from Joe the Trader that make me smile.

… And new salads! This one is vegan and includes multiple superfoods. I’m proud of you, Joe. This is some good tradin’.

Last but not least, my Grandma. She’s the cutest in all the land. There’s no contest.

Now a small chat about my own struggles with perfection (and imperfection). I’ve always wanted to do things right. To the T, looking perfect and being perfect. Over time, I’ve realized this isn’t possible. I get froyo every week and don’t work out all the time. But that’s what this community is about. That’s what this challenge is about. Pushing yourself, embracing what your body is capable of, and nurturing it, all for imperfect happiness. I’m not an expert. I don’t have a degree in Nutrition or Exercise Science, but I’ve learned through years of experience, trial-and-error, what works for me and what doesn’t. What I am here for is to motivate you to find your “perfect”, and to live in happiness. Because healthy living isn’t just about eating healthy all the time and working out every single day to your body’s limits. It can be, but for most people (like me), it’s not. We can all have our froyo once in awhile, and we can all have our rest days at the beach. Life, love, and happiness, and most of all, balance.

What does perfect (or imperfection) mean to you?

Love this post! So necessary to have a little imperfection in your life every now and then! I totally have that type A personality and need for perfection but sometimes I have to step back and realize that life cannot be perfect and I am not always happy when everything is perfect! Sometimes you need some Fro-yo and chocolate and that is totally fine! I should of ate a salad for dinner last night but what did I have….a green smoothie and popcorn while watching the bachelorette! It was totally necessary!
P.S. Your grandma is the cutest!

I am right there with you, girl! It really is all about balance. It would be boring to eat 100% of the time. Would it even be possible to eat clean all.the.time? Not for me. I’m all about the 80/20 rule. We all need froyo and rest days for our sanity. :)

I’m obsessed with that salad! I actually re-create it at home.

Your grandma is the cutest!! I think perfect is different for every person and I think that’s why it is so hard to attain because what I think is perfect is probably completely different than what you think. :) Because of that, I think we can only pursue perfection in our own lives in the way that makes us happiest.

Wow, heavy for a Friday… haha! :)

I love this! Such a good reminder that healthy living is about a balance of physical and mental/emotional health.

And let me just tell you, a life without froyo is not a life I would want to live.

Your Gma is adorable. Love that. I kind of want that spinach salad and your tan…I’m the palest thing on this planet. No shame. We definitely all need a break every now and again, no one can have the perfect diet or workouts, sometimes we need to live in the moment and indulge in our cravings. Its good for the soul! I totally used to be like you as well, striving to “look perfect”, not that that’s possible. I wanted everyone to think I had the perfect diet, workouts, fashion, grades, blah, blah. That would make people pretty boring if we were perfect. You are doing amazing with the challenge!

It’s funny because just before I read this (cred to Meg for linking it up on FB!), I was trying to decide whether or not I wanted to go for froyo! The giant picture of yours was like a SIGN FROM THE HEAVENS! Going to do my workout, then going for froyo. I dedicate my PB sauce topping to you! Will be back to your blog soon!! xo

I struggle SO much with perfection! This was a good reminder that no one is perfect, and stressing about being “perfect” is such a waste! Gotta live life :)

I’ve learned in the gym that I can’t be everything. I can’t be the fastest and strongest. I can’t run a bajillion miles and do high intensity workouts that involve lifting the heaviest weights every week. I TRIED, but it almost killed me (okay, not really). I didn’t have energy to do anything else but eat and sleep, I was stressed about missing certain workouts or not having the “perfect” schedule for the week, and I just wasn’t having any fun anymore.

Like you said, it’s all about life, love, and happiness. I didn’t have a life, I wasn’t loving myself, and I definitely wasn’t happy. When I learned that I couldn’t be perfect in the gym, it translated well into my life outside of the gym, and I learned to let go and just try to be MY best, MY own version of “perfect”. If you’re going to be yourself, there’s no way you can ever mess up, and I am behind you 100% on your journey through life and fitness. Thanks for all of your positivity and for giving girls my age a proper role model to look up to! :)

No need to say “not sorry” after telling us about the eating of indulgent things! That makes it seem as if you should be or that we expect you to be, which you shouldn’t. :) All your froyo pictures have me drooling- it looks so good! Seems like you’re having a great vacation! Hope it continues to go well :)

Me. too. Froyo errday.

Lea July 7, 2012 at 12:22 AM

Being perfect means just living life, and eating fro yo on occasions because a fro yo-less world is not a place I want to live in.

It’s impossible to be perfect, so you push yourself and do what you can, and don’t sweat what you can’t.

And the challenge is going awesome, I got in my LiveFit workout in and had tofu with curry sauce and local veggies for dinner. So yummy.
