{Sweating Dirty}: CrossFit and Form VLOG!

by Katelyn Block on July 10, 2012 · 18 comments

Hey y’all! I came back from my class and I’m exhausted so I made green juice and am about to drink the biggest coconut water ever. And then I looked at some of these to make me laugh. It’s the little things.

Since I’m not feeling the whole writing thing right now, I made a vlog. It involves me saying “like” a lot, turning words into songs, and showing off my mad muscles. I hate watching myself talk, so you should do it instead. Enjoy!

Subscribe to my YouTube channel here! I don’t make videos every ******day, but when I do, I like to think they’re kind-of funny and semi-educational. Keep your eye out for an iPhone Apps post tonight!

Have you ever tried CrossFit?
Input on strength vs. strict cardio?

Sooooo glad you liked Crossfit! Though I’m a bit concerned that your coach/trainer/dude didn’t help you with selecting a weight. Maybe I’m just spoiled, but generally unless I specify what I want to do, my dude will tell me.
But yes, so glad you liked it and that you’re not afraid of bulking up.

I agree. I wish my Coach had taken more initiative to help me out, but overall I loved it!

Definitely with you on the importance of form – when I do yoga, I make sure to concentrate on the pose and try to nail it as opposed to faking my flexibility (of which there is very little). Quality over quantity is a good motto to have, and I’m so happy to hear you had a great time at CrossFit! If I ever get around to it, I may dip a toe into the unfamiliar waters of strength training, but for the next month I’ll just be keeping up my mileage and doing the occasional yoga class before my half marathon in August :)

So glad your bloggy helped you get an in on crossfit and trying it out for free. We get some cool opportunities for sure. Kind of bad they didn’t help you on the weight selection though! You think they’d get you set up properly! Glad you loved it! I’ve been doing crossfit type workouts, but at home versions. I wish I could afford crossfit, but I’m broke. I love the erg!!! I used to row and my fave part was doing the 1 mile race every 2 weeks we had to do, I guess I’m a crazy lady;) Maybe I should mention I have a blog and am a fitfluential ambassador and such. I also don’t get how people STILL think they can bulk up from weights, do dang silly…anyways that’s enough blabbering from me, I wrote far too much.

Loved the VLOG. I do crossfit football and Crossfit Endurance twice a week. (alone at my gym) and I love it. The only issue I see with a lot of Crossfitters, (besides the pride and “you’re no good, if you don’t do crossfit” mentality), is that they don’t do anything else. Coming from a running and just plain weight lifting backgroud, (played lacrosse in college), I hated Crossfit and the Crossfitters because they always gave me that, you’re not good enough. But i would ask them to come run a 50K or marathon with me and they like, you’re stupid, I would then ask, “i thought you were fit?” they would have no answer. The lesson here is you do you. If you like only running, hey get out and run, if you like doing crossfit, do crossfit, just don’t look down on the other for not doing what you like.

Loved the vlog! I am doing a free trail of Crossit soon, pretty nervous, but your vlog has kinda helped calm my fears to know the employees are happy to help you. How many days a week are you going to go to crossfit?

Love that you loved CrossFit. It’s so great! And yes, you’re right about form. IT. IS. KEY. Form and technique will make or break your workout. It’s what I stress the most at my gym!

Your Vlog was great. Still a fan of your voices. But work on your form. I almost threw up from the bouncing camera, ha ha.

Yay vlog! Love that you had a good time doing it, agree with the other folks that the trainer should have helped you out before you even touched the weight. I think CF gets a bad name for having people who can get over zealous about it, and because some people don’t focus on form and instead focus on speed. The majority of friends I’ve made via CF completely support the fact that I’m also a long distance runner and the coaches I have make sure I’m performing things correctly before adding too much weight. Hell, the Games has a freakin triathlon in it this year! Got to be up on endurance sports in order to kick ass on the first day. Anyway I ramble. Loved the vlog!

I love CrossFit! I have been doing it for a little over a year and I am obsessed! So happy you liked it! Thank you for pointing out how important form is! It is so crucial and sometimes gets overlooked but it is vital to preventing injuries! I with everyone else and think the trainer should probably have helped you with your weights without asking, especially where it is your first time! One of the things about CrossFit is you really have to find the best box for you. There are so many out there now that sometimes CrossFit gets a bad rep because of one poorly run box! So try out a bunch and see where you fit! I am so lucky to have found the best box ever for me! So glad you liked it and hope you try it again soon :)

I’ve never done crossfit – but would love to try it someday! It costs money, though, and a free training session is the best for me.

But, I’m a lover of mixing up my workouts. There’s a park near me that I work out in sometimes. I’ll run a lap, then use some play equipment (if there’s no kids…) to get some strength work done. BUT, when I’m sad or anxious or angry, strict cardio all the way. Best.

In summary, I’m all of everything. :)

I’ve been dying to try cross fit! I’m obsessed with heavy lifting, so I know I would love it. The problem is, I know if I go to a free trial, I would love it too much and would be really sad that I couldn’t afford it all the time. Ha ha.
