{Review}: Think Energizer Bunny. {+ Birthdays!}

by Katelyn Block on July 23, 2012 · 19 comments

Guess whose birthday is in exactly one week! Meeeeeee.

Surprises from Starbucks that make me happy. Reppin tha gold membah statussss.

I’ll be receiving another one of these for my birthday. What should I get? Tall Venti Trenti sugar-free skinny mocha latte with soy no whip? Or maybe the world’s most expensive Starbucks order, like….ever? Don’t act surprised.

Today is my dear friend Chelsey’s birthday, and also the (few days ago BIRTH day) of Lisa and Chad’s beautiful baby girl, Cora. We are also approaching the blog’s 2nd Anniversary: on August 8th!  The celebration will continue through this weekend and my birthday, July 30th. If you’d like to send me some canned jam, a card, or even a powder-blue Vespa, I won’t protest.

Guys, I’m getting older. Where did my life go?

Since I have aged (almost) a whole year, I’m embracing the awesome companies that I eat every day and still bless me with beautiful, yummy things to fill my belly with.

Exhibit A. Meet the Vega family of Energy. Think Energizer Bunny.

I love free things. I also love protein. It’s even better when it’s plant-based, because guess what? Not only is it good for your bod (fact), it’s good for the environment and less expensive. If you didn’t figure it out already, all things earthy are good for the Earth. Good logic, huh?

My whole life, I’ve been fascinated by new stuff, and being a FitFluential Ambassador, I have access to loads of new, yummy goodies. I know I’m using such grown-up, adult language here, which is clearly indicative of my grown-up status.

I’ve had the pleasure of using Vega products for years (almost as long as I’ve had the bloggy, holy moly!), and know for a fact that Choc-A-Lot and Vanilla Almondilla can’t go wrong in anything. I’m talking mixed with almond milk, in your breakfast, on your ketchup-laden food.

Since I’ve been doing CrossFit, my body has been screaming for protein. All the time. Last night, it was approximately 11pm and I practically scarfed down some Old Bay-covered Mahi. And then I wanted chicken. All of you non-meat-eaters are probably cringing right now. I’m okay with that.

Nutrition stats.

But when I’m in need of something a little less… “animal”-y, I go for some Vega. I like to use it in a smoothie immediately after working out. Not only does it assimilate super-quickly (a must after putting my muscles in the grinder for an hour), it tastes amazing. I’ve tried lots of protein powders. Some grainy, some with no flavor, and some that made me spit them out. Some were just “tolerable”. Vega has always been “completely tolerable and awesome”.

On vacations, I put some water (or almond milk if I have a fridge, talk about luxury) and shake up a scoop (or packet) of Vega if I need to take the edge off. My metabolism is really fast. Think Energizer Bunny fast. After I eat a meal, if I’m away from my fridge/food source/open water so I can go fishing for things to consume for more than a few hours, I’ll probably bite your arm off.

These flavors are smooth, naturally sweetened, and full of bod-healthy protein. I’m not telling you to try Vega, but I really, highly encourage it. Loyal customer of two years, holla at me.

So thank you, Vega. You saved a few arms. And made my Energizer Bunny belly happy. Please come again.

How do you stay satisfied on-the-go?

Mmm, I’ve just started to buy some of the Vega packets – Vanilla Almondilla and Choc-a-lot are spectacular! That said, I do prefer SunWarrior on the whole due to its higher protein content (and the fact that I have a full bag at the moment).

And hey, if you send me your address, I might have time to pop a card in the mail. Unfortunately my birthday is months away so I won’t be getting my free Starbucks beverage anytime soon – I’m a little envious!

What fab Vega photos — so bright ‘n’ cheery. Happy almost b.day, love :)

Only the cool kids have birthdays in July. I’d say get one of everything at Starbucks. When I got a 50 dollar giftcard there last year, I spent it all within the course of a week. Not joking.

I went protein crazy when I started CrossFit too!!! It was all I wanted! I love the Vega smoothies! I just bought the choc-a-lot and thought it was amazing! So chocolately!

I keep meaning to order some of this! I have been seeing it all around the bloggy world and am dying to try it. Some protein powders are just gross, but everyone says this is yummy. and plant based? awesome. I try to stay away from Soy because of my Thyroid issues and would like to avoid dairy in my kinda paleo ways. I need to order this, stat.

Since I started training for a figure competition, I am inhaling protein like it’s my j-o-b. I don’t know what I’d do without protein powder… in fact, I’m drinking a carrot cake protein shake now. :)

Love making frapps with Vega’s Vanilla Chai flavor. Haven’t seen the Vanilla Almondilla yet, but that’s the next one I want to try!

I haven’t tried that protein powder yet…I will have to now! I love plant based proteins! They don’t make you feel quite as full and they don’t weigh you down!

I just got my free birthday Starbucks card in the mail and I’m planning out what to get to make the most of it!

I love Vega! I’ve only had the vanilla almondilla but the tropical tango one looks crazy good. I usually prefer Plant Fusion though because it’s cheaper and has 21 grams of protein which is necessary with my vegan diet plus it’s soy free!

I try to incorporate protein into all of my meals and snacks. If I’m on the go I typically have a protein bar or snack of some sort in my bag with me. I love using Sunwarrior when it is mixed with other things but sometimes when it is on its own it is a little too Earthy for my tastes when just mixed with almond milk! I really want to find a chocolate one that I like!

I’ve never tried Vega before! The Choc-a-lot sounds yummy!

I’ve got a Choc-o-lot in my pantry right now, I’ve never tried it but everyone keeps talking about it so perhaps I should dig it out tomorrow!

YOU DID?! Girl… this is a big moment. Your mind is about to be BLOWN.

Heather @ Side of Sneakers July 24, 2012 at 7:49 AM

I’m going to be very grown up too and tell you how jealous I am of that package. :) I LOVE Vega & especially the energizing shake packets. Sometimes it’s nice to just open a packet, pour it in a cup, and chug chug chug. Mmmmm.
