Fresh produce. I love it.
I could go to the Farmer’s Market every day of my life and just people-watch all day long. And shop.
True story, every time I go there, I walk by the meat and seafood counter and get a little bit confused. The whole open-air thing grosses me out a bit. It makes sense that it’s the “natural” way to do things (open-air markets are all the rage in cities across the world, or so I’ve heard), but I don’t like the idea of fly poop on my fish. That’s just my personal preference, though.
So, I often purchase my proteins from Wegman’s or a health food store where they sell free-range and organic meat. My general rule of thumb: Buy all of the vegetables you can at the farmer’s market, and get the rest at the store. Try to remind me to stay away from the “healthy” chocolate aisle when I get back to school in the fall. #brokeaswhaaaaaa
One of my ultimate staples: a beautiful bunch of tomatoes.
They can be used in anything. To make a sauce, sliced on top of a salad, or used to add flavor and saute — like in this dish.
For this recipe, I’m using kosher, white ground turkey. It’s not organic, and it certainly isn’t fancy, but there’s one thing that a girl always has to keep in mind: Spending wisely. It’s smart to buy mostly organic food, and saving a few bucks once in a while and buying conventional. It’s all about balance.
One thing that I have issues with: Balancing avocado consumption.
These things are so satisfying. They can be used on dishes and salads, in smoothies, or in mousse. I prefer the latter.
But today, we’ll just use them to add a creamy note to this dish. Melt-in-your-mouth bites. Sounds good, doesn’t it?
Enough about avocados. And tomatoes. Let’s get cooking.

Italian Turkey Meatball Stir-Fry
Prep Time: 2 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Keywords: fry saute stir-fry paleo nut-free sugar-free low-sodium soy-free low-carb kosher high protein gluten-free
Ingredients (Serves 4)
- 1 lb. ground turkey
- 4 small tomatoes
- onion powder + garlic powder (alternatively, 1/4 onion and 1 clove garlic, sauteed)
- sea salt
- coconut oil
Instructions
- Chop your tomatoes (and onion // garlic, if using), while heating your pan on medium-high heat. Add coconut oil to pan after a minute or so.
- When pan is hot, add tomatoes and saute for 2-3 minutes, or until juices start to come out.
- Add your ground turkey, and chop up with your spatula while sauteeing.
- Stir pan every few minutes, and add garlic + onion powder with sea salt as the dish is almost finished cooking.
- Cook until almost all of the tomato juices have evaporated.
- Serve hot over vegetables with homemade tomato sauce, dressing, and/or avocado.

While your pan is heating up, slice (and dice) your tomatoes. Try not to cut yourself. Use the safe road and curl your fingers under. It works.
Saute your tomatoes in coconut oil, then add your turkey and spices.
This would also work (and taste great!) with any other ground meat.
Munch on snacks. It smells too good.
Then prepare…
And eat.

I’m an avocado lover too! This looks easy and very yummy!
Looks absolutely delicious!
Lean Ground Turkey is yummmers!
Mmmm, fresh tomatoes and avocados! Those are my favorites
UM YUM! I would have never thought to stir-fry me some meatballs. Fab idea.
As a side note…I am OBSESSED with your nails. Did you do that yourself?
DELISH is right!!!!
Looks delicious! I love avocado!
I can eat an avocado plain straight out of the shell – SOO good!! this recipe looks delish – simple and easy. And beautiful photography I may add.
This looks so good Katelyn! I will definitely be trying it! I love avocado too! It’s so perfect with pretty much anything!
Hey, just giving you heads up…. you should probably update your “Philosophy” page, specifically number 7, if you’re going to eat animals.
Thanks! Will do.
Wow! This look sooooo good. Mouth is watering!
Ooooh it looks so yummy and healthy! Goooood.
I absolutely love the farmers market. I’ve totally contemplated bringing a pillow and blanket and living among the produce stands =)
Such a great idea! PS I love your nails.
I need these in my life. Right.Now.
1) Organic and free range meat means nothing about the actual quality or welfare of the animal you are eating. It seems like you used to realize this, given your personal philosophy page, where you emphatically endorse compassion for animals. Please read the attached article–you can find many more like it: http://www.animalwelfareapproved.org/2009/08/29/tainted-beef-is-organic-just-as-dangerous-as-feedlot-3/
2) You mentioned the farmer’s market. It is tomato season. Why did yours come in a plastic bag with a bar code?
3) You. Are. Not. Broke. How wonderful for you that you don’t want waitress for the rest of your life and that you can CHOOSE to quit your job without economic repercussions. People in downtown Detroit LOVE taking a bus to work at McDonald’s in the suburbs! Look, obviously your quality of life doesn’t require you to have a job to begin with. Life goes on very comfortably for you. You eat fresh foods, do cross fit, eat out, buy clothes and shoes, go on vacations…and you can do all this without fear of NEEDING your job. Stop pretending! #RECKANIZE #YOUAINTBROKE (Are we speaking your language now?)
4) Wow, I hope you don’t gain 15 pounds from eating TOO MANY AVOCADO HALVES ON SPINACH.
5) Onion powder? Did you buy ANY fresh vegetables from the farmer’s market? Did you even GO?
6) Congrats on turning 16.
I would make something like this, but with vegan “meat” crumbles or the like. Sounds good! I too do my best to buy organics when at all possible, but sometimes, you just can’t. I keep in mind certain vegs/fruits that “must” be organic, and if I can’t buy them organic, I will go frozen or not buy. It’s definitely hard sometimes when the prices go up.
