BACK in Action! {in Portland}

HOLY CRAP I’M BACK IN CIVILIZATION.

I really really loved being in the middle of nowhere at my little-piece-of-heaven cabin, but there is only so much lake-ing I can do without going a bit bananas. I missed my internet (don’t crucify me), blogging (I meeeeeessed you guys), and CrossFit. Thank goodness our next stop on the road, Portland, Maine, has two boxes.

The closest to me is CrossFit Casco Bay. CFCB it is!

I had a great time with them tonight. The athletes were all very welcoming (I like to think we’re a welcoming bunch), and I got some good restaurant recommendations out of them. I also got a good sweat sesh in.

WORKOUT: Warmup (samson stretches, good mornings, OHS, KB swings, pushups, pullups), 8-minute EMOM (8 push presses, total of 64), and then the partner WOD (45 lb. weight carried while other partner works: 400 m run, 100 air squats, 50 KB swings).

It was difficult, but after three days of chill time, I needed to get my butt whooped. I haven’t had caffeine in a few days, so I’m definitely going to have a cup or two of coffee before tomorrow’s WOD. I don’t like to rely on it, but I definitely feel the extra explosiveness I have when there’s some caffeine in my body.

Anyone want some Moo Cream? Casual. Restaurant // dinner recap in the morning!

Portland, Maine locals: Recommendations for places to eat // awesome things to see?
How do you get your sweat on when you’re on vacay?
What do you miss the most when you’re away from home?

^^ These are hefty questions. Don’t be stressed.

When I’m on vacation I don’t worry too much about “working out” per say…I try to get a lot of sightseeing and exploring in, so I just end up walking a lot. It’s vacation, that’s enough for me.

I’m originally from the Portland area but I’ve lived in the Rochester area for a few years now. I also agree that flatbread pizza company would be a good bet. I often go there when I visit family. Regarding gelato: Locals seem to debate which one is better – Gelato Fiasco OR Gorgeous Gelato. They are right across the street from one another. I’ve had Gorgeous Gelato which was VERY GOOD. I can’t yet vouch for Gelato Fiasco, I’ll have to try it during my next visit! Enjoy your time in Maine!

Oh and you might enjoy Leroux Kitchen on Commercial St. — it’s not a restaurant, it’s a really cool new england foodie store — I like the different types of olive oil and vinegar you can sample. Also, I always enjoy walking or jogging along the back cove trail (http://trails.org/our-trails/back-cove-trail/) … it’s kind of portlands version of the canal path :)

Thank you!! I’ll hopefully be stopping by the gelato places. Are there any froyo joints around?

Hmm … I can’t think of any froyo places, at least not the kind of places I see out here in Roc where it’s soft self serve and you can add endless toppings. There are a lot of seasonal ice cream shops in Portland and the surrounding towns that primarily serve hard ice cream, Beals is good, on Moulton St. in the Old Port. I believe they have some frozen yogurt flavors, but I’m guessing it’s hard frozen yogurt, not soft. Good luck in your search!

OK, one more suggestion. (Sorry, I get pretty excited about Maine) I haven’t done one of these yet but I’ve heard good things. The Maine Foodie Tours: http://directory.portlandmaine.com/maine-foodie-tours-portland-me/s/11779/

I love the idea of visiting other boxes, It would be fun to see how different coaches focus on different things!

Lucky you got to go to a box on vacation! I’ve never done that, but I want to! With the partner WOD, how long was it? Or were there a certain # of rounds you had to do between your partner or time restriction? It looks interesting and I wanna try! Please explain more! :)
