Things I love: Yummy food. Pretty things. The ocean. Ocean spray. Fog. Maine.
Toes. Sperry’s get me through an unreal amount of walking. Who says they’re just for boats?
Things that make me want to explode: Walking forever. and ever. and ever around an island.
Beautiful downtown Portland.
Today, we visited Peak Island and ate yummy food while looking at pretty things. We also spent a disgusting amount of time walking around the island-that-never-ends. My suggestion to any of you thinking that “a nice walk around the island” is a good idea — YOU’RE WRONG. Take a bike. Or a go-kart. Yes, I’m all about getting your sweat on but walking is mind torture. Do something faster.
Just make sure you’re eating good food.
Iced tea refreshment.
The day’s special: Salmon + Beef Kabobs over Greek Salad.
This got so many likes on Instagram.
We had to wait a little bit for our food, but we entertained ourselves by taking pictures on our fancy cams. Those beauts are on their way, don’t you worry.
Once we got back to the mainland, it was time for some dinner. Walking apparently really works up an appetite. I was just so distracted by how badly I had to pee that I forgot about food. This never happens.
We hopped over to Portland Lobster Co., which had been given rave reviews by my fellow CrossFitters. Are we noticing a pattern here?
Above, my first ever Lobster dinner. I know, I’m such a noob. You know what they say! When in Maine…. eat lots of seafood.
Instead of the baked potato, cole slaw, and corn on the cob that it usually comes with (holy crap), I got a side salad with balsamic. Perfection. Cracking apart the lobster was kind of cool. It was scary when I cracked open the middle and, surprise! Lobster liver! But other than that it was really yummy. I squeezed fresh lemon all over the lobster meat instead of dousing it in butter.
Afterwards, I needed some dessert. Since I’ve been eating super clean the last couple of weeks, I figured a splurge was in order. We saw a froyo place, and I knew I had to get a giant cup inside. It wasn’t self-serve, but because I was impatient we stayed there and I’m glad I did.
Coconut and java fro-yo with almonds and chocolate chips.
Holy un-reality. I got a decaf coffee with soy afterwards which hit the spot. I always need something almost-hot after a meal to really top it off.
After dessert, we did some more walking and then hit up Whole Foods to get some eggs, freshly-ground almond butter, coconut milk, and 88% Dark Chocolate. You know, the essentials. Look what I found!!
How cute is this? I had to. Oh, Marmite. You make me feel cultured.
What are your favorite places to visit on vacation?
Are you an Eating vacationer or a Walking vacationer? I’ll walk if there is food involved.

On my bike trip from boston to maine, we stopped at the portland lobster co!!! It was amazing….totally the best meal on the entire trip! Especially since we had been rationing our food budget by eating pb and j’s in the days leading up so we could splurge on lobster!

I’m road tripping up to Maine in October for my honeymoon (live in PA) and you’re making me SO excited! I think I need to create a separate fund for the amount of lobster I’m going to consume . . .
