We Made It!

‘Ello, everyone! I am ALL MOVED IN and officially stressed. It’s stupid I know. The opposite of what I should be feeling. Stress is stupid. But, I’m in between getting into classes, figuring out what I’m going to eat for breakfast, missing my family (I know, I’m an “adult” now, but I still miss my parents), and trying to adjust to a new place.

Speaking of…..

Look at this AWESOME closet space! Wow. I don’t even have enough things to fill it up, which says a lot because my Mom tells me I pack like Imelda Marcos. If I spelled that wrong, feel free to correct me. It’s something I’ve been making progress on (or that’s what I like to tell myself, anyway).

I’ve been really happy with the apartment and everything it has. It’s no fifth-avenue high-rise (one day, maybe), but it has great closet space (heh), basic kitchen appliances, and a spacious upstairs and downstairs. Needless to say, I think it will feel like home in no time.

I’ve already broken in the pots and pans!

For dinner, I pan-seared some tilapia in coconut oil and then had it atop greens with pumpkin seeds. I drizzled everything in pumpkin seed oil (an UNREAL recent discovery — so nutty and delicious, I could put it on everything!), a few squeezes of lemon, and a crack of sea salt. On the side, I had iced tea, which was perfectly perfect and homemade! I found a Cold Brew box of tea bags from Lipton that are seriously perfect for those of us that are always on-the-go. I have a large jug with a tap, so all I had to do was fill it with water, steep the tea bags for three minutes, and then stick it in the fridge. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Too awesome.

True story, I kind of sucked at CrossFit today. I woke up for a 5am WOD (mistake #1 –> not enough sleep), didn’t have enough coffee beforehand (it’s kind of my vice), and haven’t been stretching enough lately. I could really seriously use a massage. Or a yoga class. Or all of the above. I brought my yoga mat to Syracuse with me, so I’m determined to get some serious stretching in. Tight shoulders have been taking a huge toll on my overhead squats — I’m constantly wobbling, even at lower weights.

That was random. Still more unpacking to do, but it’s time for bed. Given that it’s the first night back, there’s lots of celebrating going on, but this girl has been up since 5am and needs some sleep. I think a bath and some hot tea sounds nice, don’t you?

What do you do after a long, productive day?

I just posted a recipe for a veggie orzo salad :) And yes, I’m totally with you on the massage. I had one on Saturday and already booked my next appointment for after my half marathon (when I’ll really need it :)

Congrats on completing the move! That can be tough. While I may have been MORE than ready to get out of my house I still miss my family sometimes (I’m in MO they are in FL). Are you going to be doing CrossFit as much now that you’ve got school going on? I think I know the answer already… just wondering. By the way- Julie Foucher is a Med Student. In case you needed any more motivation. lol. Sounds like you could use a bath and some foam rollin’! Does your roomie have the same zest for healthy living as you?

Unpacking is simply not fun in the slightest. Ick.
Best tips for adjusting…drinks. That always helps a bit:)
I love roasted kale salads with nutritional yeast, coconut oil, and chicken. Topped with avocado. So yummy.

Best tips for adjusting to a new bungalow? —– I love going running around the area.
Yummiest salad ideas? Unfortunately, I’ve been eating vegan for almost three months now and I’ve yet to eat one salad.

Yay for being moved in! We all have bad CrossFit days! I’m sure you’ll be back in the swing of things in no time! Moving always takes a toll on my body so give yourself time to recover and get back into things!

Congrats on being moved in! Moving is always so stressful, and I get so anxious about it haha. After a long productive day, I read and sleep : ) And the best way I know to adjust to a new place is to put a bunch of pictures everywhere, and then just give it time.

Congrats on your new place. One salad that I love is a Mexican salad. I use mixed greens, Trader Joe’s roasted red peppers, Trader Joe’s green salsa, black olives, crushed red pepper, avocado, and grilled chicken.

Glad you’re settling in :-)

It’s always fun to be in a new place…and I can totally relate right now!
Funny thing, coffee at Starbucks in Santa Monica is way cheaper than in Rochester…weird! But hey, I’m saving money…

We definitely will need to catch up and fill in on details soon!

When do your classes start?! Mine did today. Did you find a box to go to this morning for CrossFit or did you do your own thing at the gym or rec center at Syracuse? Also, I am SO jealous that you have the ability to take an actual BATH at school. I only get that luxury at home :(

P.S.) I SO wish we went to the same school..we could CrossFit together so I wouldn’t have to go alone and you could wake my ass up at 5 AM haha. By the way, what was the WOD this morning for you?

Katelyn Block August 22, 2012 at 10:45 AM

I did the WOD in Rochester before we left for Cuse! 30 situps on the rig, 30 deadlifts, 30 DU’s, 30 OHS, 30 pull ups.

Seriously, why don’t you go to Cuse??! And PS might be in columbus this september for a couple of days! stay with you? :)

Sounds like a good WOD! And why don’t you go to OSU?! Haha ;)

And yeah totally let me know if you come! I have a single room in a dorm (RA lifestyle) but I do have an awesome futon! Haha. P.S.) What days in September? Because Mac Miller comes the 14th and I want to go see him but I want someone to go with! You like Mac Miller? His concert was awesome the year before!

I hope you settle in quickly!
So, if you have any vanilla ice cream laying around by any chance, go top it with that pumpkin seed oil. Seriously, it is divine!!!
Also, it tastes FABULOUS on pasta with some rocket salad and tomatoes!

Ahhh the beginning of school is so exciting! I’m a little nervous too, though. Is your apartment just yours, or do you have roommates? Do you still live on campus? One of my best friends goes to Syracuse and I might come visit her this year… we should get some coffee!

Unpacking is never fun, but you will soon be settled in! Best of luck!

I am right there with you on slightly being addicted to coffee! Have to have it every morning now!

Ah, glad you’re all settled! That is an AMAZING closet; never had anything quite so spacious in college!

I recently settled in a new bungalow, myself. Photos, photos, photos! Make it feel like home :)
