Winter + Invictus WOD + Quick & Healthy Paleo Dinner

Hey friends! Dang, I’m feeling so much better.

It’s really amazing what a little home remedy’ing can do. I’ve been getting plenty of rest, eating my vegetables, and using a tissue when I sneeze.

Proud, Mom? (it absolutely makes me so happy that she reads my blog. Hi Mom. What’s up)

Sipping on the natural stuff.

I was supposed to go to Binghamton tonight to visit my partner-in-crime, best friend, fraternal twin brother that I never had…. but I’m using my better judgement and deciding that traveling and being a party animal is probably not the best situation when I’m still feeling less-than-awesome.

Plus the weather looks like this.

Ew. Seriously, winter? No one invited you.

Not about it.

Where are my flip flops?

Hmmm what have I been up to lately…. well, I’ve been spending some quality time getting to know this sucka:

Like it. About it. Love it.

Thanks to Clare, I finally manned up (apologizing for my bad grammar) and bought the book. Only $24 on Amazon! Good lord, how I love Amazon. Perks of being a student: I was able to get six free months of an Amazon Prime membership with my .edu mail account.

High five!

Every time I order something off of Amazon (try not to do this very often because I’m poor), I get free two-day shipping. My stuff gets to me faster. Definition of winning.

Besides that, I finally got to get back in the Box today. Being able to train again was like a miracle from the heavens. Forreal. I did yesterday’s Competition WOD from Invictus and felt pretty good. My body is still pretty fatigued from simply fighting off a virus, so I’m making sure to eat plenty of nutrient-dense foods and continue to get good sleep.

This is the WOD I did, with weights I used:

Workout of the Day
A.
Three sets, not for time, of:
Box Jumps x 10-12 reps
(if you cannot rebound from a 24/20″ box, choose a smaller box until you establish the rhythm)
Unbroken Pistols x 4-6 reps each leg (did these to the boxes — 18 inches, since I’m not that good at pistols yet)
Unbroken Toes to Bar x 10-12 reps (wasn’t able to do these unbroken — still working on T2B’s)

B.
Back Squat
*Set 1 – 5 reps @ 115#
*Set 2 – 3 reps @ 135#
*Sets 3-5 – 1 rep @ 145#
Rest 2 minutes between sets.

C.
Every minute, on the minute, for 20 minutes:
Hang Clean + Clean

Minutes:
1-2 @ 50#
3-4 @ 60#
5-8 @ 70#
9-12 @ 75#
13-16 @ 80#
17-20 @ 90#

D.
Three sets of:
Weighted Hip Extensions x 6-8 reps @ 25#
Rest 60 seconds
Strict Toes to Bar x 6-8 reps
Rest 60 seconds

Been loving Invictus programming lately. It kicks my butt and works every skill. Love how thorough it is.

I’m still full of energy and kind of antsy after this workout, but I made a promise to myself not to go too HAM. The last thing I want is to work so hard that my immune system goes under again. Tomorrow I’ll probably do a workout at one of the other local Boxes since mine isn’t open on Sundays. Usually not a problem because, typically, Sunday is a rest day, but I already missed two days this week.

Sunday funday, it is!

Dinner ingredients for tonight:

Can you guess what I made? Yes? No?

Did any of you guess tuna pizzas?

Oh you’re so goshdarn smart.

Side note: Need to clean off my table. I see a dog hair and we don’t have a dog.

These were so yummy. Made them with a similar recipe as before, but with 1/3-ish cup of egg whites. I’m running low on eggs this week. It’s a short story. I need my own fridge.

I cooked a big tablespoon of coconut oil in the pan, poured some into the batter, and then cooked them in four cakes. Before flipping them, I added another tablespoon of coconut oil and swirled it around. I’m convinced: the more coconut oil, the merrier. It makes these sooooo moist and buttery! I dipped them in Wegman’s Organic “Grandpa’s Sauce Goes Vegetarian”. It’s the only authentic-tasting marinara sauce I could find that used only olive oil, and didn’t include any form of sugar. Win!

Time to go drink some more tea and be incredibly lazy. I’m determined to knock out two WODs tomorrow and feel good doing it.

xo!

How are you staying active this weekend?
Any awesome weekend stories to share?
What did you have for dinner?! (or breakfast… definitely my favorite meal of the day)

Seeing weather like that makes me glad I went to school a little further south than my east coast roots. I’m not ready for the down jackets yet!
