WHEW! Hey there friends! Wow, what I week it’s been! I haven’t talked to you since last week and finnnally I am back. Wow. Let’s talk about what I did this week.
Did a triple WOD Monday, active recovery row and foam rolling Tuesday, strength and metcon Wednesday, then I rested Thursday and Friday (and foam rolled) before my competition Saturday.
It was a pretty boring pre-competition week in this neck of the woods, lots of resting means lots of boundless energy, which was fine because I went road tripping with this girl all weekend.
I love CrossFit friends that turn into every-minute-on-the-minute friends. (HA, CrossFit humor….. I crack myself up sometimes)
Before I get into the competition weekend, let’s talk about how on Tuesday I got to see Hollie for the first time in over a year!
We’re so cute. We went to dinner at Empire Brewing Company, a bar and restaurant I have been dying to go to. Finally, it happened.
Started with the house salad plus balsamic.
I’ve heard incredible things about their burgers (especially the Kobe), so I made it happen. I love a good burger, lots of toppings and a solid amount of ketchup. No bun pwease.

Sweet tater fries on the side because I’m allowed. I do try to limit my starchy carbs but when in Rome, I eat sweet potato fries. With lots and lots of ketchup.
After dinner, we went to Starbucks for a latte night cap.
Skinny Mocha Latte. Because I can.
Next time I’m getting the Skinny Peppermint Latte, because, ya know, ’tis the season!
Notice not all of this is paleo? Cool with it. One or two nights a week with cheat meals involved is so fine by me. I’m convinced cheat meals make me want to eat healthy again. Which they do. Froyo makes me want veggies ASAP and dairy makes me want coconut oil.
It was so nice to finally see Hollie again and get some good grubbin’ in. Once in a while, splurging is good!

Then Thursday, Kayla and I left on our road trip. Because of an unfortunate situation (my parents didn’t think it would be a good idea for me to go to Long Island and work for the Red Cross for good reason given there is one road in, one road out, and virtually no gas), we were unable to go to help Hurricane victims, but got to spend the weekend road tripping for our competition.
We packed up lots of food (hard boiled three dozen eggs, made trail mix out of sunflower and pumpkin seeds, cacao nibs, and goji berries, then chopped up veggies for other snacks), and headed on our merry way to New Jersey to stay with my grandparents for the night. I really stinkin love them. They’re always a good time and make an effort to buy me whatever “weird” food it is I’m eating at the time.
The next morning, we dropped off a trunk-full of donations from our Box at a local YMCA and headed to Connecticut, “historical” attractions on the way:
MetLife Stadium. Duh.
Stops for “food and sanity”:
Le Mall. Hello.
“It’s wrapped like a present! How do you think they do that?”
“With a ladder.”
One of the many Dunkin’ stops we made:
Twin coffees. Large with hazelnut flavor shot. Black.
I’m usually a Starbucks girl but I think my fellow CrossFitters might be convincing me that Dunkin’ is better. To be honest, their black coffee has so much more flavor. Next time I’m near a Dunkin’, I’m snagging some of their Peppermint Mocha Holiday Blend for the coffee maker — it just looks so dern good.
Before I get to the actual competition (that deserves its own post… holy cow), I will give you a look into my “last supper” pre-competition-day dinner.
Whole Foods hot bar. Beef Brisket, Teriyaki Chicken, and a few sweet potato wedges. Lots of ketchup for the wedges.
How much did this weigh?
Was it mostly meat?
Did I eat every single bite?
Granted, I had only eaten my normal bacon & eggs breakfast, trail mix, almond butter, and one or two scoops of SFH that day, so I was starving…. but dang that was just what my body needed. Kombucha on the side because who doesn’t love a solid k-booch?
Word to the wise: Upstate NY needs a Whole Foods. I would drive an hour just to go to Whole Foods for dinner. I’m not joking.
Time to sip some more of my coffee, and then head out for workout #2! This morning I completed Invictus’ A + B competition workouts. They be nasty. This afternoon I’ll be stretching, foam rolling, and then getting into some skill work before my metcon. Post-metcon, I’ll be doing a recovery run. I’ll talk more about my training (and this weekend!) next post. Yeeeee get excited!
