{Almost} Paleo Breakfast Cereal

I really like breakfast. Correction: I friggin LOVE breakfast. Almost Paleo Breakfast Cereal I wake up every day with a smile on my face because I know that there is a giant pan waiting to crisp a big pile of bacon and eggs. This girl is not afraid of bacon. Bacon = friend. But sometimes, I need a little somethin’ else. Usually before my Saturday WODs, my body needs an extra kick of glucose, paired with some hefty protein and fat. Feel free to think of this like a crunchy delicious alternative to that smoothie that’s gone in two seconds. Mhmm. You know what I’m talking about. So, I made this early Saturday, posted the picture to Instagram. But then I didn’t give you the recipe and, ya know, that’s just mean. Let’s make up, k?

{Almost} Paleo Breakfast Cereal

by Katelyn Block

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients (1 bowl of goodness)

  • 1 scoop protein powder (I used Designer Whey)
  • Unsweetened Vanilla Almond-Coconut Milk (or other milk)
  • 1/3 cup slivered almonds
  • 1-2 cups berries
  • Stevia to taste

Instructions

  1. Thaw your berries (if frozen) in a small mixing bowl.
  2. Mix your protein powder with enough milk (about 1/4 cup) to turn into a thicker milk-like consistency in the bowl you plan on eating out of. Add stevia to taste.
  3. Transfer the berries to your bowl, fold gently to combine.
  4. Top with almonds and desired add-in’s.
  5. Bam, protein-packed bowl of goodies!

berries I call it “almost” paleo, because (if we want to get technical), whey protein is not paleo. But I’m flexible sometimes because a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. This is a lighter alternative to my hefty morning omelettes, and quick to digest ¬†an hour before a workout. Take it in, friends. I like this even better than cereal.

Tell me:
  • What’s your pre-workout meal of choice?
  • Frozen fruit or fresh?
  • The chicken or the egg?

Great idea! And I’m loving the new design. Chevron is the best. I actually have pink chevron as my desktop background!

I do things like this a lot post-workout when it’s hard for me to eat solids. Pre-workout I like protein and a fruit for energy!

Love the design, btw!

YUM!! I workout first thing in the morning so I don’t usually eat breakfast before. However, if I go on a run longer than 4 miles or so or go to bikram, my go-to breakfast is oats!

I really need a breakfast that packs more protein (and I don’t eat bacon or eggs), and this looks like it would be perfect, especially since fast and easy is important to me in the morning.
